1994 Crystal Maze "I Cracked The Crystal Maze" Crystal For Sale

 Much like we did for Alan Holloway from series 1, we've seen a commemorative crystal for sale and want to make sure that Crystal Maze fans are as informed as we can make them about possibly owning one of those little items that we'd all clamber over one another for (in the 'before times' obviously, clamberings a bit trickier keeping a 2meter gap)

In the course of my regular checking on eBay for any TCM merch that I haven't got, I found this.

I've been in contact with the seller, on the item page they say they're selling due to Covid, and I think we can all attest to what a kick that's been. So we just want to help someone selling their bit of TV history while at the same time helping a fan of the show (you) have the opportunity at owning one of these highly desirable baubles, which would be surely the centrepiece of any TCM collection. I'd be going in for it myself but I too have been taking a kicking so at least I can do some good here.

I don't want to give away their identity, but it's from an episode in the second half of series 5. Let's see what we can do and get this in the hands of a fan just in time for the show's 31st Birthday.

For Sale: One Original Crystal Maze "I Cracked The Crystal Maze" Crystal from Series One (1990)

 Thanks to the modern wonder that is social media, one of the contestants for the very first series filmed back in 1989 and broadcast in 1990 has been in touch regarding selling his prize crystal from the show. 

Now, I'll be the first to admit I'd love one for my collection. I'd give vital organs and limbs for one. But right now I've other priorities so I'd love to help another proper Crystal Maze fan (you, the reader) get in contact with the seller and work out a sale yourself.

Newest Addition to the Collective Crystal Collection

Good day fellow Maze fans,

It's a very exciting day at Superfan HQ today, as we take delivery of another authentic TV crystal, one that was formerly a gap in our collective collection of crystals. The crystal is from the revived series and is one of the crystals from the podium in front of the dome. These are different from the crystals played for in the games only due to the lack of logo from the base, as this would have affected the light shining through it from the podium.

In a move not unfamiliar to Nickelodeon viewers, the first episode has made it's bow on Youtube.

Now if you're not located in North America it won't work for you. But this is the internet and when has that stopped anyone. There'll be no spoilers on here though, we want you watching it and enjoying it. So instead of us reviewing the episode over a week from the 24th, here's what Twitter thought:

If you've recently seen Adam from Adam Ruins Everything talking about doing a game show for Nickelodeon that's been on British TV for 30 years, you've thought one of three things:

• I've seen that on YouTube, he's perfect for it.
• Oh cool, never heard of it, but looks pretty good.
• What? 30 years? What is it? What's with the bald guy in animal print? Did I just see the guy from that Ben Stiller alien movie?

Well there's a lot more to it than this, but here's the basics:

Nickelodeon Producing The Crystal Maze: How Well Could It Go?

Right, we got a couple of posts out to catch the tide of TCM news, and there's plenty of that about now. So let's just have a calm consideration of what this new series could be like.

Crystal Maze Parodies/Sketches (Video-heavy Post)

In 1992 Kurt Cobain, of the grunge group Nirvana, said that he felt like the band had finally made it after 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' was the basis for a parody by Weird Al Yankovic. Comedic tributes for things don't happen out of malice, they happen because the subject involved is highly ingrained in the public consciousness. Over the years there's been a few tributes to TCM featured on TV, so for those that haven't seen them (I'd guess mostly through age or these shows not being shown wherever you may be reading), here's a few.

Crystal Maze Crystal Collection

As a Maze Superfan I have amassed a rather impressive collection of Crystals, past and present. Firstly on the left, the Crystal Maze Crowd Funding Crystal - "I Build The Crystal Maze" is engraved on it. These were given to us for crowd funding the live experience on Indie Go Go in 2015/2016. The second crystal from left in the picture below, is a "live experience" crystal. These are smaller than the TV ones because the Maze Master actors have to carry them around with them. The third crystal from left is an actual crystal from the new series, I don't think it is a prize crystal from the end, but more like a crystal used in one of the game cells. I acquired this from the Production Company. Lastly, the one on the far right, is the original 90s' Prize Crystal from The Crystal Maze. I won this superb crystal on eBay (I almost had a heart attack when I nearly got outbidded!). It was a lot of money, but well worth it. It completes my collection. I just need to go on the new maze now and get the prize crystal from the new series! Will make a fantastic display in my cabinet at home. ;) 

The Evolution of The Crystal Maze - In Crystal Form!

The original 90'S series crystal I believe is a Swarovski one, and sits in a sturdy blue display box, as presented at the Crystal Dome by the presenters.The one I own was sold to be my the Production Secretary, Anita Stubbs. I believe some members of crew were given crystals as a keep sake for their work on the programme, hence why my one is not engraved. But as you can imagine, I am over the moon to now own this. It is in such excellent condition, it still looks new. Hard to believe it is a quarter of a century old. The original crystal gives off this lovely refractive light, which changes dependent on the angle you hold it. Love it!  Now I am just praying I am lucky enough to go on the new series, to get a 21st Century "prize" crystal to complete my awesome collection of Crystal Maze Memorabelia. I think it is just simply great how the maze has such an impressive history from its conception through to its modern day evolution. It is very rare that television programmes can do this, let alone survive a revival.

I've got the Crystal!

 Well I went a bit mad on eBay today and bidded £440 for an actual Crystal Maze Crew Jacket and Crystal (boxed) from the Original Series.

I almost got outbidded at the last second, but my adrenaline kicked in at the last second in true maze style and I won the auction. Anita Stubbs, Production Secretary of the Original Series was selling it.

I'm getting it sent to a friend of mine in the UK, soon as I finish this deployment I look forward to coming home to my Crystal! What a childhood dream to own one of these.

What a dream come true at last! I have the Live experience Crystal, crowd funding Crystal, Crystal from the New Series, and now an actual one from the Original programme! I will take a photograph of them all together once I am back in the UK!

Collectively, this Fan Forum own quite a substantial collection of Maze Memorabelia. We could hold a convention at this rate!

02/02/18: Phil back in the UK has teased me with this Royal Mail Card, he is off to collect the original Crystal on my behalf tomorrow, then send it to me when I am back in the UK from this deployment. Exciting times.
