Crystal Maze - and a possible way to explore... in D&D?

Whilst the UK is feeling the struggles of being locked in at home, people like myself who need to escape somehow to help manage their mental health, have taken to playing Dungeons and Dragon's as a means of escaping to fantastical worlds and leaving modern comforts behind in the form of role-playing gaming.

With the crews of Critical Role, High Rollers, Acquisitions Inc. & Force Grey all enjoying playing their games whilst broadcasting them to Twitch & YouTube platforms, interest in the game has grown massively, especially with the growth of the digital toolset "D&D Beyond" providing a quick, easy way to manage your character, uptake has never been higher!

Traversing the Crystal Maze is much alike to D&D, as you and your band are lead by the Dungeon Master across strange lands, handling the people of the land and helping them out, and solving devious and dangerous puzzles.

Of course, Dungeons and Dragon's has a connection to the Crystal Maze in the form of
Reckless Rick, yes, Mr O Brien!

In the live-action movie of D&D, Richard is playing the part of the Thieve's Guild Leader known as Xilus. The hero, after a legendary artefact, is told exactly where he can find it. Yes, Richard
is dispatching the hero into a "Labyrinth" to retrieve what is actually a Crystal!

And true to form, when the hero exits the labyrinth, Richard's character demands it's
release to him.

So, when trawling the net this morning, I came across a Reddit post advising of a possible
way that you could have a one-shot adventure in the Crystal Maze - in the realms of Dungeons
and Dragons.

Original Reddit Post : https://www.reddit.com/r/DnDBehindTheScreen/comments/cug9pv/a_gameshow_puzzle_dungeon_parody_of_the_crystal/

One thing the post doesn't lay out for you is ONE particular scenario for as to how to do the dome round. That gives you a few options for your adventuring party!

This even features a parody of the infamous "PRESS U3!" incident of the Future Zone back in
the 90's edition of the series.

However, Reddit user "zdouglas" then comments

"No no no, their guide must be a skeletal figure in an outlandish jacket accompanied
by a bandage covered woman. Lichard O'Brian and Mummy

Everything else is perfect!"

So maybe you'll be the one to cross Mumseys palm with 3 Silver? Who knows!

If you're interested in starting your journey in D&D, why not search for an organization known as "The Roleplay Haven" that have several locations UK wide, and currently play online via sites like Roll 20 and comms software like Discord! You can also buy D&D books from the aforementioned D&D Beyond, and from Amazon. We suggest looking on eBay as well for pre-loved books to save a few pennies!

Also check out DriveThruRPG.com for a massive supply of resources, including books for players and Dungeon Masters, so if you're not clever with creating riddles or designing puzzles, relax - the community has your back!

(Psst! You just rolled a natural 20 on your investigation, did you know The Crystal Maze fan blog has a Discord server now? Chat all things maze with us there!)

Take Care everyone, stay safe and stay well!

Jon
