@adamconover : For Those Who Have No Idea

In the same way that Americans are very likely to be totally unfamiliar with the work of Ed Tudor Pole, the vast majority of Brits are unlikely to be aware of the career of Adam Conover, the man taking ownership of the keys to The Crystal Maze for Nickelodeon.

"Adam Conover, 36, he's a TV host and comedian from Wading River, New York, USA"

That's the brief version out of the way.

Conover is best known for his show on TruTV 'Adam Ruins Everything', where he plays a fictional version of himself debunking common misconceptions believed in American society. For example, he picks apart the reasoning as to why jaywalking is a crime in America (hint: because rich car manufacturers say it is), and why the electoral college system in American elections ruins democracy, or as some might say is a disaster for democracy.

He also voices several characters on the Netflix animated series 'BoJack Horseman', has a YouTube channel, and streams on Twitch where he's currently working his way through recent release 'Control'.

I personally think he's a great fit. He's got a fun personality, I can see him adapting to the fictional world in which TCM resides, and he's got a distinctive look to him that suggests he could well develop into a figurehead of the franchise.

Neale Simpson, executive producer, is quoted as saying: “You’re a Maze Master, you’re not a gameshow host, it’s a mad and eccentric role. Adam’s take has been like Willy Wonka in his chocolate factory – it’s his maze, he’s created all the games and he’s thrilled somebody has come to play with him for the day. Like Willy Wonka, there’s also a mischievous side to it, a bit of an edge – sometimes the kids lose, sometimes they get locked in. The notes we were flagging to Nick early on was you can’t have a host on autocue. It has to be somebody who has funny bones, a sharp mind and will react to what unfolds in front of them."

We've already had a "Willy Wonka's got alopecia" in Stephen Merchant (his words, not mine), who filmed his episode whilst shaven-headed for his role in Logan, let's see how the new Willy Wonka works out (try saying that fast three times).

  1. It was so strange. Yesterday, I was at my brother's house and he was looking at YouTube videos and suddenly, he played an Adam Conover Ruins video and asked me if I had ever heard of him. I told him that i had heard that he was going to host a show on Nickelodeon. Kind of interesting that it happened this weekend.
