Who Are Next Week's (28th June) Celebrity Crystal Maze Contestants?

So it has begun, and I think we can all agree she was loud wasn't she. However in under a week, a new team of five famous faces enter the maze. For the uninitiated, let's meet them.

Anita Rani

Rani has been the presenter of a number of shows since the late 00's ranging from 'Cricket AM' on Sky Sports through to long-running consumer advice show 'Watchdog'. She can currently be seen as one of the hosts of another long-running show, 'Countryfile' which covers a range of rural and environmental topics.

Jeff Stelling

A mainstay of Sky Sports football coverage on a Saturday for 25 years, Stelling has been the face of both elation and crushing misery come the end of many a football season. Outside of sports presenting, and overenthusiastic Hartlepool United supporting, he was briefly the host of Channel 4's 'Countdown'. During his tenure on the teatime game, Stelling cameoed as himself in 'The IT Crowd' with mazemaster Richard Ayoade when Ayoade's character Moss was a 'Countdown' contestant. Here's one of his most memorable clips, having to deal with last year's Christmas contestant Chris Kamara being confused at a football match.

Tom Rosenthal

Actor/Comedian Rosenthal, son of sports presenter Jim Rosenthal, is most recognizable from his role in Channel 4 sitcom 'Friday Night Dinner'. He was also one of the stars of ITV2 sitcom 'Plebs' but has also done more serious work, at one point featuring in 'Broadchurch'.

Hannah Cockroft

Cockroft is a British wheelchair racer specializing in sprint distances in the T34 classification. She holds the world records for the 200 metres, 400 metres, 800 metres and 1500 metres in her classification and the Paralympic records at 100 metres, 200 metres, 400 metres and 800 metres. Competing for Great Britain at the 2012 Summer Paralympics, she won two gold medals. Hannah won 3 further Gold medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

AJ Pritchard

A dancer by trade, Pritchard first came to the public's attention on 'Britains Got Talent' in 2013. He later went on to be a professional on the BBC's 'Strictly Come Dancing' where the 2019 series will be his 4th.

Opinions are always welcome below, and if you haven't read it yet or seen our 300 tweets mentioning it, here's our interview with Crystal Maze executive producer Neale Simpson

  1. We know we won't be seeing the lillypads tunnel and wall transitions next week (unless they do the lift gag) due to the wheelchair. We may see a new eastern transition unless they use the entrance point. Also may i say they had a opportunity to create a new map but all it looks like is a cut and paste scenario except for the dome as they need to reanimate as the castle would have been visable.

    1. I agree I would have preferred to have seen the original classic style of map back too. I have never been keen on the new map. However, the zones are no longer joined and the original will always be fondly remembered for this. It is a missed opportunity I agree, but they're appealing to a new audience and are trying to make the show fresh. It just seems a bit daft to not make the map more classic in appearance, given they are already playing on the nostalgic value. The Maze Map, connected zones and transitions in my opinion were vital components of the show. I liked how it was all so intricately connected. The Maze Map was basically the album cover for the show and to not make the new one more classic was a mistake to be honest.
